(This story was updated on Dec. 27 to reflect that Travis Ahern has accepted the post.)
Travis Ahern, the administrator for the town of Holliston, Massachusetts, has accepted the role of executive director of the state’s Cannabis Control Commission (CCC).
Ahern is tentatively scheduled to start March 3, according to a CCC news release.
He was offered the job post after commissioners voted 4-0 on Dec. 18 to enter negotiations with him, the State House News Service reported.
The CCC turned to Ahern after David Lakeman, a former employee of the commission, turned it down in November to remain in Illinois, where he leads the marijuana division at the state’s agriculture department.
The agency hasn’t had an executive director since Shawn Collins resigned in late 2023.
Debra Hilton-Creek, the CCC’s chief people officer, has been serving as acting executive director.
Acting Chair Bruce Stebbins lives in Holliston, where Ahern works, but said he hadn’t had personal or professional dealings with Ahern before he applied for the CCC role, according to the State House News Service.
Meanwhile, Arkansas also is in the market for someone to oversee its medical marijuana industry.
Trent Minner has resigned as regulatory administrator for the Department of Finance and Administration, effective Dec. 31, according to the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
Minner has overseen MMJ, liquor, tobacco and racing in Arkansas since July 2023.
He resigned for a job in the private sector, the Democrat-Gazette reported.
