Two lawmakers in Tennessee have introduced separate bills to legalize adult-use cannabis sales and establish a medical marijuana program.
Senate Bill 0809, introduced by Democratic state Sen. Jeff Yarbro, would establish rules for the production, distribution and sale of recreational cannabis products, according to Nashville TV station WSMV.
SB 0809, known as the Tennessee Cannabis Act, also would allow:
- Adults 21 and older to use, possess and transport up to 60 grams of flower.
- Personal cultivation up to 12 plants.
House Bill 0872, introduced by Republican Rep. Iris Rudder, would legalize medical marijuana for patients with the required qualifying conditions, WSMV reported.
HB 0872, known as the Tennessee Medical Cannabis Act, also would allow businesses to cultivate, produce, distribute and sell medical cannabis.
In 2023, a Senate committee rejected a Republican-sponsored medical cannabis bill, making Tennessee one of only nine states that have yet to establish regulated adult-use or MMJ programs.
