Sixty-seven licensed marijuana businesses in Michigan were fined for various regulatory violations in November.
According to a news release from the Michigan Cannabis Regulatory Agency (CRA), the fines ranged from $333.33 to $19,000.
The highest fine was levied on Blue Fox Brands in Lansing for noncompliance with Metrc as well as surveillance and security violations.
According to the CRA release, other violations among Michigan marijuana operators included:
- Annual financial statement noncompliance.
- Failure to report material changes (legal entity and physical locations/operations).
- General operational issues.
- Noncompliant handling and production.
- Noncompliant sales.
- Noncompliant waste disposal.
- Packaging and advertising.
- Sampling and testing.
Eight businesses were cited for regulatory violations in the state’s largest city, Detroit, which had more violations than any other municipality.
Lansing and Warren were next with six violations apiece.
According to Detroit Metro Times – which first reported the fines – the CRA increased its compliance enforcement after Brian Hanna was appointed executive director on a permanent basis in September 2022.
Hanna worked for several years with the Michigan State Police in criminal intelligence and was deputy sheriff in Kalamazoo County, Michigan.
He also was a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve working in intelligence and civil affairs.
